Kyrgyzstan"s interim government thanked...
The interim government put Kongantiyev on the country"s wanted list in connection with the violent crackdown of protests in the country earlier this month.
"The first deputy head of Kyrgystan"s interim government Almazbek Atambayev thanked Russia"s FSB [Federal Security Service] for assisting in an operation to detain former interior minister Moldomusa Kongantiyev in Moscow," the 24.kg news portal said.
A representative of Kyrgyzstan"s State Committee for National Security confirmed that the ex-minister was in custody in Kyrgyzstan, but not that he was detained in Moscow.
"He [Kongantiyev] was arrested and is currently being held in a pre-trial detention facility of the State Committee for National Security," the official said.
Shortly after reports of the Kongantiyev"s detention, some 20-30 of his supporters blocked the highway linking Kyrgyzstan"s second largest city of Osh and the capital, Bishkek, demanding the former minister"s release.
