The wheelchair-bound woman from Uruguay had flown in from Sao Paolo, Brazil, on Friday. Her 44-year-old female companion tried to flee the airport but was also arrested, CNN quoted a Civil Guard spokeswoman as saying.
The spokeswoman said the elderly woman has been sent to a senior citizens" home in Madrid, and is unlikely to face jail time due to her advanced age.
The women, who were about to catch a connecting flight to Tenerife, have not been named.
