Jaruzelski, Poland"s prime minister from 1981 to 1985 and head of state from 1985 to 1990, was the country"s last communist leader. He resigned after the Polish Round Table Agreement in 1989 led to democratic elections in Poland.

In 2005, General Jaruzelski attended the Moscow celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, together with then Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.
