Three car bombs exploded in Baghdad on Sunday. More than 200 were injured in the coordinated attacks that security officials said targeted foreign diplomatic missions. Some reports said 50 people have died.
One of the morning blasts occurred near the Spanish and German embassies, which also slightly damaged the Ukrainian mission, another was close to the Iranian Embassy and a third left a deep crater next to the wall of the Egyptian Embassy.
A senior security official at the Egyptian Embassy and an Iraqi guard at the German compound were reportedly among the dead.
A fourth car bomb was defused after the driver was stopped and arrested.
The bombings followed the deaths of at least 25 people in a village south of Baghdad on Saturday. Up to 15 gunmen in military uniforms attacked the village in the early morning.
The victims were reported to have been handcuffed and shot in the head.
